Here's a list of the latest things that's happened in Imagica.
- Roleplaying in Imagica
- Changes in the Immortal Realms
- Code Update
Roleplay, Imagicans, Roleplay!
==================
Imagica has taken another step towards becoming a roleplaying MUD. We now
have a system
for awarding the players roleplaying points. These points can then be exchanged
for
gold/experience points and in the future perhaps items. There is also a
new channel called
rp-gossip where all roleplaying conversations should be held, the command
for this is rpg.
Changes in the Immortal Realms
===================
A few changes has taken place in the higher realms since our last issue,
they are as
follows:
- Nix has been promoted to Quest Master (still keeping his title as Head
REI)
- Muerioch has joined the REI team
- Puck has taken over the duties as a Clan Master
- Shayla has become our new Gaffer
Code Update
=========
Imagica's code has been updated. There is nothing really visible for the
mortals, but it
will make new updates easier and a lot of possibilities has been created
for building.
There has also been quite a few bug fixes.

Night has patterns that can be read
less by the living than by the dead.
A gasp of breath,
a sudden death:
the tale begun.
To know the darkness is to love the light,
to welcome dawn and fear the coming night.
Night can be sweet as a kiss,
though not a night like this.

There are going to be some mayor changes in the house zones in Imagica.
Or more
specifically, in DinoStreet. The street has become too long, and can no
longer
hold all of the people requesting houses. Also, it has been decided that
it would
be more interesting with house areas in more places in Imagica.
Therefore DinoStreet will be split up and a new house area will be placed
next to
another one of Imagica's hometowns. (Don't miss the opportunity to vote
for which
one!)
Also, the houses will always consist of 2 rooms. If you're a married couple
you get
4 (2 each). The price is 10 000 Gd. for purchasing (2 rooms) and after that
4 000 Gd./month
in rent.
If you only have 1 room now you will therefore need to send in a request
for a second one.
You will get your second room a little cheaper as you are (basically) forced
to do this.
Instead of 5 000 Gd. building fee you pay 4 000 (if you have your request
in by the date
that will later be set.) After 1 month your first rent needs to be paid,
and after that
it will continue like that every month.
More details on how this will happen and when will come in due time. For
now you
may want to start considering if you want to be among the people staying
on DinoStreet
or if you would be interested in moving to the new town.
Also, please take a moment to consider where you would like a new house
area. This is
your opportunity to make the mortal's wishes heard.

Where would you like the new house area to be? There are several hometowns
in
Imagica to choose from. As Lunah wants to know which city would be the most
popular one she wants you all to send in a vote. (Only one per player, you
cannot vote once which each character.)
The options are:
- Collasha
- Nivrim
- Troll Kingdom (no El, He, Pi may live here)
Send your vote in as soon as possible by mudmail to Lunah. The votes will
be counted
on the last day of April and the house zone will be placed by the city with
the
highest count.

I've had an interview with Shayla about her duties as our new Gaffer.
So far I think
she's doing a good job, and I wanted to hear her own opinions about what
she's doing.
Lunah: You've been a Gaffer for a little while now, giving you some time
to settle in.
How do you like the job?
Shayla: So far I am really enjoying it. I am a bit saddened when I have
to get after
people, and punish them, but that comes with the job. I do have to remind
myself that
if they would just follow the rules I wouldn't need to. So it is their choice.
Though
I must say that things seem to be gradually improving.
Lunah: From what I've understood you were actually offered the position
(after having
been Quest Master for a while) rather than applying for it. Did this surprise
you?
Shayla: Yes it came as a complete suprise and I feel quite honored to be
chosen.
Lunah: What qualities in yourself do you see as an asset as a Gaffer?
Shayla: I do try to remain calm when dealing with frustrating situations
and I try to
see both sides of a problem.
Lunah: Could you explain to us a little what your duties consist of?
Shayla: I basically watch over everyone and make sure their stay in our
towns the very
best they can be. In times of need I sometimes have to help solve problems
but for the
most part I just keep an eye on things.
Lunah: What is your general opinion on how Imagica is doing at the moment?
Are there a
lot of trouble for you to take care of?
Shayla: When I was first appointed Gaffer there seemed to be a bit of trouble,
but I think
now we are on the other side of that lump and working towards and nice atmosphere.
Lunah: How do you enjoy being a gaffer?
Shayla: Sometimes like I said it is hard. I have a lot of mortal friends,
and having to
punish them is quite difficult.
Lunah: Do you have any ideas of what could be done to keep the Imagicans
happier and to
keep track of the trouble makers?
Shayla: Well I have thought a lot about that. I feel that we are working
hard now to
improve things. Such as new areas.. the new roleplaying reward system...
kicking ideas
around about remort and mortal stores and trying to see what would best
fit into our over
all plan for where we want Imagica to be. I think that will aid a lot in
making everyone
happy.
Lunah: I've heard some rumors about a young girl walking around Imagica,
looking remarkably
much like you. Is there some kind of connection?
Shayl: *A tear trickles down my cheek* I don't wish to talk about that at
this time.
I am sorry.

To make things easier for themselves, and also to give a better overview
for the
mortals the Quest Team has put up a new strategy. Quests are now planned
a few
months in advance, and will be announced on Imagica's website (Current/Coming
Quests)
for everyone to see. This way people will know long in advance when a quest
will
come.
The Quests will still be announced in Imagica on the Quest Board, but not
until
1 week or so before the quest is happening.
The Quest Schedule for the coming months should be up on Imagica's website
within 1
weeks time. Also, keep your eyes open on the Quest Board as Imagica's RolePlaying
Week
has a date set! It will start on Monday 6th May and run until Sunday 12th
May. (Week 19)
The week's events and quests will be announced in the next few days!

It has come to our attention that the men in Imagica lack some skill when
it comes
to courting the ladies. It goes against our belief in romance to ask a lady
if she
is indeed female, and then pop the question is she gives an affirmitive
answer.
(It is also completely against roleplay.) Therefor, we have decided to make
a little
handbook for those young men (or old for that matter) who are interested
in learning
the ancient art of courting a lady.
Below you will find a few tips that might gain you entrance to a lady's
heart.
- Bring her flowers! What lady does not love them? You can always try to
find out
if she has any favorites and then try to get hold of one of those.
- Small trinkets and gemstones make nice gifts.
- Ask her if you may escort her around. Show her your favorite places, or
just a
good excuse to be near the lady in question and get to know her a little
better.
- Invite her to a picnick! Collect some delicious food and good wine and
take her
to a nice spot for a bit of talk and eating.
- Ask her if she'd like to be your date for one of the events that sometimes
happen
in Imagica. (Once in a while we have balls and feasts)
- If you have the talent for it, a poem is always nice. (But please keep
in mind
that poems about death and carnage might not be the appropriate ones to
win entrance
to a lady's heart.)
- Once you have won her heart it is best not to lose it by slobbering all
over her. A few
quick pecks here and there are fine, but I am sure if she wants more she
would let you know.
- Give her compliments. How beautiful her eyes look, what a nice outfit
she has on.
- Lady's lets not forget your role in this. Be sure to thank the special
lad who wants to
keep your company for the effort he has made to get there.
- Proposals of marriage should not be ones made hastely, and are best done
romantically.
(Not while fighting Welmar and she gets to see hey would you marry me inbetween
him casting
fireball on her) Though public events might be a wonderful time to suprise
her with the
question (one of our balls or feasts) be sensitive to the fact she might
be embarrassed to
be placed on the spot in front of abunch of people. So if you choose such
a time, take her
for a walk outside under the stars. It would be much nicer for you both
to come back in and
announce the decision then for her to stammer and stutter in front of everyone.
Good luck to you all!

We have had a few visitors to our land this past month, and it has been
quite exciting.
On March 17th, Larry the Leprechaun came to ask for some help. Somehow his
pot of gold had gotten lost, and he was just frantic. He asked all Imagica
to help him find it and return it to the rainbow where it belonged.
Larry sends his thanks to all who helped him, with a special thanks to Chloe
and Ketra for finding and returning his gold.
On the 29th, the Easter Bunny hopped his way through Imagica they kept popping
out
of his basket. When he finally reached Teldar square all were lost. So he
called on
the citizens of Imagica to help him find them. Kindhearted citizens we have
gathered,
and with only a few clues set out in search for the eggs.

I thought that I should explain a few things about the role-play, how,
where
and when to do it and what you get for doing it. Let's take it from the
beginning, the
points are here to make people role-play (if you haven't noticed). Then
what is role-play?
Muerioch has been working on an RP page where a few pointers has been scribbled
down, if
you have read this and still do not know what role-play is or if you never
read the
RP page but don't know what RP is anyway, then I will explain.
Role-play as I know it, and most other people I bet, is a way to live a
life that you
always wanted, as a warrior, as a mage, as a crusader and so on. I bet
that most boys
wanted to be a knights when they were little (or cowboys and indians for
that matter) and
playing these rolls, as kids often do, is called Role-play or "childs play"
if you wish.
So you see, doing role-play is much like bringing out your childish side
and just having
some good, clean fun. There are people who seem to think that role-play
is rediculous and
totally useless but the fact is, that role-play makes you develope as a
person and give a
perspective on some things that you might not have understood before. I
will stop ranting
about how role-play makes you develope as a person and instead tell you
what good role-play
will do to you if you use it in Imagica.
If you use role-play while playing, it makes the game much more fun to
play as it is a
fantasy world you're playing in, with living (maybe not breathing) people.
Most people use
this as an excuse to terrorize the other players and generally piss everybody
off but
in role-play it isn't really that easy to make someone mad for real.
If someone walked up to you and said, "Thou smell of filth, worse than
an Orc!" You would
know instantly that this person is just role-playing, why? Well, who uses
thou and speaks
of Orcs in real life? Uh... There are some that do it, but they often have
serious issues.
Anyway, the point is that Role-play can make you avoid having disputes
with players that
are set on harrassing as many people as they can before they log off. And
it's just not
that. You are living a life in the mud, you are not just here to fight
enemies all day
long, level and then continue. This can get rather boring in the long-run
and therefor,
having something to do beside killing makes the game a little more fun
to play. So, for
those that feel they are using their boredom to make other people miserable,
role-play
instead!
Awards, awards, awards... I hate that people are hunting RP points, but
it is a rather
fine way to make people role-play. And for those that are already role-playing,
the
points make them more set on doing it all of the time and the expectations
get higher
as they now get awarded for what they before thought was only a fun way
to play.
Then what are the awards and what do you get awarded for you ask?
Well, role-playing with mobiles i.e. talking to the mobile, grabbing a
hot-dog with the
mobile, playing games with the mobile, go to parties with the mobile, marrying
the
mobile!... Will be awarded. Talking to other people IC (In Character) will
of course
also grant you points. But what are the proper things to talk about if
you expect getting
points?
Just about everything that concerns the world and the lives of those characters
that
inhabit it. Talking about equipment and levels and expirience is NOT role-playing,
of course it might be, if you say it in a role-playing manner. But do you
level IRL? Did
the romans level? Do you think aliens level? No, I am cetrtain they don't
(Can't speak for
the aliens of course).
Thus, from a role-playing perspective, levels does NOT exist in the realm
and neither do
flags, DT's OR mobiles for that matter. They are called something else,
mobiles are
living things if you haven't noticed, they have genders, they are of different
races and
trades. Basically they are just like you, but they have no one sitting
behind a keyboard,
pulling the strings so this is where the acting part comes into play, just
act and
everything will be fine and fun!
Let's get back to the awarding bit, shall we? Well, other things that will
be awarded is
having a good description for your character, then what good can this do?
I have only
one answer to this question and that is "DOH!". When people look at your
character,
they don't see a line of text, they see your character. That's why the
human brain is so
good (in some cases on most persons), it has the ability to create pictures
out of things
that are not pictures. Thus, the text you see is not text, it's a picture,
it's how
the person you are looking at looks like. Get it? If you don't, I would
be more than glad
to explain it to you on a later occasion...
Gods and faith, a cocktail that is often mixed in most cultures by the
godly bartenders,
the priests. Your character must believe in something. May it be war, death
and
destruction or gods, peace and love. But the point is, you believe. And
believing in
gods and worshipping them like they should be, will also grant you points.
If you are not a religious person in real life, the more reason there is
for your character
to be religious, it gives you answers. And how do you worship someone or
something then?
Another rediculous question but without an obvious answer. Worshipping
someone is to
give up your whole life to that person, to honour that person, to give
that person
everything you have and doing this in the game i.e. if you are a cleric,
you must have
a religion and the religion is based on giving things to the gods, and
they will PERHAPS
give you something in return. So, letting your character having a strong
faith when
it comes to gods, will earn your character a few points aswell, if you
do it in a
role-playing manner as I have said so many times before.
Then what are the awards? Gold! Expirience! Items!
The gold and expirience we have but not the items, atleast not yet but
we are working on
it. Some people have asked if we could let the players customize their
own items if they
have points to cover it (the rp-points will function as money here). This
is however
difficult to do as the items would quickly "fill the cup to its edge" so
to speak
so the items will be god made and put in a store where you can go and buy
the items you
desire.
These items, however, are not something you will be able to use in combat,
maybe some of
the items will but most of the imtes will be useless for someone who is
planning on killing
mobs with them or use them as protection in combat. The most common items
will
probably be clothes, jewelry and other small trinkets and gadgets that
you can use when you
role-play.
So the items will sort of be an extension to the role-play you are already
doing.
Then how much expirience will you get when exchanging your points? Not
much, to tell you
the truth. The points are here to help you level, not to make you level
entirely on
RP. I wanted it to be this way, but some did not as the mud was basically
in the beginning
a place to kill and level and still is. Sorry to disappoint you all, but
as a comfort
I can say that the expirience for one point will be increased a little.
The amount you
of expirience you get now for one point ranges totally on what level your
character is.
So the higher level you are, the more you get! And the same thing goes
for gold...
I now hope that you have gotten a somewhat good picture of how the role-play
works in the
game and that you will do your best to role-play, after all, it's fun and
all I want to
do is to show you that it is! Just give it a chance and you will see...
